The Care and Conservation of Georgian Houses Fourth Edition, Butterworth Architecture 1995
In 1994, I was employed as one of two researchers, working with the original authors, to update this book for its 4th edition. The book was originally conceived as a technical guide for homeowners in Edinburgh’s 18th Century New Town, but is also now considered a useful reference work for architects. It gave me a great interest in and detailed understanding of traditional Scottish building construction and materials at an early stage in my career.
More recently I was asked to research and write two Historic Home Guides for Edinburgh World Heritage, who have launched a new series of guides aiming to give advice specifically for owners of listed buildings within Edinburgh’s World Heritage site. I have written one on ironmongery and one on roofs.
